The book covers 115 species of timber trees in Guyana, of which 83 are described in full detail. These include: a list of vernacular names used in Guyana; a full botanical description of leaves, flowers and fruits; a full description of field characteristics, such as tree height and diameter, bole, bark and slash; the ecology and distribution in Guyana; notes with regard to identification of closely related species or taxa, which can be easily confused with the described species. A full-page line drawing and two full colour illustrations of bark and slash accompany each species description.
